Melanie Lynch, an esteemed figure in health education, is a dedicated professional with a rich background in academia and a passion for empowering both students and educators. Melanie embarked on her educational journey at Penn State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. Building on this foundation, she furthered her studies at Penn State, obtaining a Master's degree in Counselor Education with a specialization in eating disorders and chemical dependency.
With an impressive 28-year tenure as a Health and PE teacher at North Allegheny Intermediate High School, Melanie has left an indelible mark on the education landscape. Her commitment to advancing health education is exemplified by her co-authorship of the health textbook, "Comprehensive Health," a widely utilized resource in her classrooms. The book, published by Goodheart-Willcox, reflects Melanie's expertise and dedication to fostering health literacy among students.
In 2016, Melanie assumed the role of President at SHAPE PA, showcasing her leadership within the health education community. Her outstanding contributions were further recognized when SHAPE America bestowed upon her the prestigious title of National Health Education Teacher of the Year in the same year.
Melanie's influence extends beyond the confines of her classroom and state. A passionate advocate for teacher development, she crisscrosses the country, working collaboratively with thousands of educators annually. Melanie strives to equip them with the skills necessary to empower students on their journey towards enhanced health literacy.
Currently, Melanie Lynch is engaged in a groundbreaking initiative. Teaming up with Mary Connolly, she is actively involved in the creation of a comprehensive, skills-based health curriculum for K-12 students in Oklahoma. Notably, this curriculum will be made available free of charge to benefit educators and learners alike once completed. Melanie's tireless efforts continue to shape the landscape of health education, leaving an enduring impact on students and teachers nationwide.
