Prior Learning Credit

Cambridge College can assess your prior learning, work, and military training experience to turn the valuable knowledge you gained outside the classroom into academic credit.

Get Further, Faster

Get the credit you deserve. By taking advantage of prior learning credits, you can:

  • Decrease the time to complete your degree
  • Reduce your tuition costs
  • Minimize duplication in what you learn

What Qualifies for Prior Learning Credit?

Many types of experiential learning can be evaluated for credit, such as:

  • Industry credentials and certifications
  • Work experience and job skills
  • Employer training programs
  • Military service
  • Independent study
  • Volunteer or community service
  • Open-source courseware study
  • Proficiency in a second language
  • Other training or skills

Determine Your Eligibility

Students at Cambridge College may earn credit based on previous academic or professional experience by requesting an Evaluation of Prior Learning. Credit is awarded for experience that demonstrates college-equivalent learning. To pursue transfer credit from prior learning experience, meet with your academic advisor to:

  • Determine the appropriateness of your experience and portfolio to your program of study
  • Complete and submit your portfolio
  • Better understand the evaluation process

Faculty experts evaluate submissions. To be considered for a current academic term, your submission must be received no less than three weeks prior to the last day of classes for that term. If credits are awarded, a fee of $130 per credit is charged. A block portfolio (5 or more credits) is capped at $650.

Credit for Industry Certification and Credentials

At Cambridge College, we recognize that you may come to us with significant career accomplishments, including professional certifications from leading organizations like the Project Management Institute, American Management Association, Association for Talent Development, Institute for Management Accountants, and more. Depending upon your program of study, credits can be applied toward major course requirements or electives. And there’s no cost to you for any credits you are awarded based on our Certification-for-Credit program.

Review the following list to determine if your certifications can be used toward a degree at Cambridge College. Then, contact our Admissions Department to evaluate and apply your credits.

Following accreditation guidelines, a maximum of 30 undergraduate credits can be earned by our Certification-to-Credit program.
